Vintage Lens update

Just got my 11th Vintage lens! Now I have a beautiful set of Russian, French, and Japanese vintage lenses.

Amazing Bokeh!

Here's a shot of some very unique bokeh from my vintage 100mm. I can't wait to use this!!!Who wants to be the first to use it with me?!

Pay close attention to the the group of lights in the middle. See the mini halo around each light bokeh blob? With a lot of mini lights this lens will be quite a fun beautiful lens to use!!!

Nissan Commercial shot in Indianapolis

I just spent the last weekend following a driver for Nissan, with Agency Chiat Day. Director Ryan Browne and I went to Indiana with our Red Epic and Scarlet and followed a driver named 

Bryan Heitkotter , he was the winner of the GT Academy last year which means he was the top video game player for a game called "Gran Tourismo". First place of the competition was to become a real race car driver. It was a pretty awesome weekend. Here are a couple of stills from the race.

Just got my 7th vintage from Russia. These lenses are beautiful. I can't wait to shoot a low contrast hipster music video full of flares!

VINTAGE LENSES

I'm starting a collection of vintage lenses! I just got my first legendary lens, the

SUPER TAKUMAR asahi PENTAX 50mm f/1.4 . Its amazing how sharp it is at 1.4. The lens is really warm and flares very easily.

 Here is a shot to show the  interesting bokeh that it creates out of focus. It makes you a little dizzy but I think that could be a good effect!

Here is my next lens. Coming all the way from the Ukraine!

Shooting in North Carolina

I'm shooting in North Carolina for the next 3 days for Nissan. It is so beautiful here and the air smells so good. It's made me realize how disgusting LA's air really is.

San Jose Earthquakes Commercial

Here is a link to a commercial I shot a few months ago.  Low budget with 5 canon 5Ds locked off all over this house. This made it cheap and possible to return to the same shot 4 hours later to film the same actor in his face paint.

Just shot a Hidden Valley Ranch Commercial with Matt Fackrell in San Francisco. This was one of our locations.

Shooting in Texas

Just spent 3 days in Texas with Director John X. Carey. We shot on the Red Epic in a border town jail in Laredo Texas, San Antonio, and Austin for a documentary about the Dream Act. Should be a great emotional piece chalk full of perty pictures.

SANTA ANITA TRACK DOCUMENTARY

My Scarlets first job. I'm shooting a short Documentary about horse shoes. This is a 800mm lens. I set my camera to 2K and made it a 1600mm. I got some pretty epic horse races today!

Cincinnati Reds baseball Commercial

Just got back from a 3 day shoot in Cincinnati working with the Cincinnati Red baseball team. I shot stills and video of different parts of the city. The baseball players will be later composited on the buildings and in different parts of the city on giant jumbo screens in a pretty epic fashion. The video will be the opener that plays before the start of every home game for 2012. Here are some shots of the city!

lamborghini Commercial

Today I shot a lamborghini commercial for a dealership in Woodland Hills. We had two lamborghinis that we shot around town. We rigged 3 5D's and 6 go pros to them. The White one costs $500,000!

Just purchased a 4K China ball.

After researching for a while I found this great lighting company in South Korea making large china balls. Most of the china balls in the US are up to 1500Watts. I just bought one that is 4000Watts! The craftsmanship is topnotch, made with the best materials. This is great because it has two lines of power which make is possible to use without a generator. I plan to use it as a really soft glamour light or bring it up high in the sky and use it as ambient fill light in a night exterior scene. Here are some photos of it. It's about 4ft in diameter.

San Francisco Earthquakes

On Thursday shot a commercial for the San Francisco Earthquakes soccer team with Director Matt Fackrell. This should be a pretty funny spot. I'll upload a view stills soon!

Nissan Commercial

Just shot the first day of 5 shooting days for a Nissan commercial last Tuesday with agency/production company Chiat Day. I'm pretty excited about this one. Director Ryan Browne and I are filming a Nissan Z car getting modified over the course of two months.  Here are some BTS shots.

Dental Light

I bought two dental lights on craigslist. The light quality is pretty cool. It acts like a beauty dish (a still photography tool used in lighting for a hard/soft directional light). The light is evenly dispersed on the parabolic polished silver dish. Here's a photo of the light and an example from a small music video I did last week.

I might experiment by spray painting the dish white. The vignette is from the light which is cool. I might use the light to emulate a flashlight for a key light.
